| Frauke Thielecke is a German filmmaker and theater director pursuing a PhD in Comparative Literature in the International Writers Track at Washington University in St. Louis, where she has been focusing on screenwriting and playwriting since 2023. |
Her short film Dunkelrot (Dark Red) was awarded the Max Ophuels Prize, and her graduation film Abendlied (Evening Song) won the Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award. She has directed numerous television series and feature-length films, including four romantic comedies set in Massachusetts and two thrillers set in Poland, and has taught at several acting schools in Germany. Her first play, Follow the..., won the A.E. Hotchner Playwriting Award in 2024, and her second play, The Winger, received the award in 2026. In 2026, she was honored with the Mendel SATO Research Award for her paper "Between Brushstroke and Cut: Editing Leon Golub's Persona in Kartemquin's Golub (1988)." In conjunction with her fall 2026 course, Remixed and Remade: Literature into Film, she organized After the Image: Adaptation in Contemporary Art, an exhibition at the Teaching Gallery of the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in St. Louis. |
